Reading Challenge

By the end of each week, try to finish reading a book and complete a quiz using Accelerated Reader (see links at top of page). When completing quizzes, please make sure you are quizzing on a book you have finished within the past couple of days. Try to avoid quizzing on books you read a while ago, as this would mean that your answers do not reflect your ability accurately. Most importantly, have fun reading! Maybe you could compile a top ten list of books you have read whilst school is closed?

English Task

We would like you to watch the video for David Guetta's song 'Titanium' again by clicking on the image below to remind yourself about the characters and the storyline.

We would like you to choose a different genre or point of view for this piece of writing. If you have written a narrative to retell the story, then you could try writing a newspaper report about the events that took place this time. Alternatively, you could use the same text type but write it from a different character's point of view. For example, if you have written a diary entry in character as the boy, you could try writing a diary entry in role as the teacher or one of the police officers to show their different perspectives.

Remember to spend some time planning your writing before you start (just as you would in school). Think about the key features of the text type you have chosen and the grammatical elements you will include (e.g. fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, relative clauses).

You could draw a planning frame to help you (see ideas below).

You can complete your writing in your home learning book or type it on a computer. Make sure that you read through what you have written and edit it as necessary.
